The Evil Dead is an American low budget horror film written and directed by Sam Raimi. Actor Bruce Campbell got his role as protagonist Ashley "Ash" J. Williams cult status among fans of horror films. The Evil Dead was succeeded in 1987 by Evil Dead II, which is technically story not so much a sequel but a remake with higher budget. Raimi and Campbell continued the story with a jump to the distant past in the third Evil Dead, entitled Army of Darkness (1992). There appeared in 2013 a (partial) remake of the first part, entitled Evildead. The Evil Dead was one of the first films that received the predicate video nasty in Britain. The unedited version was banned some time. 2001 could be circulated again for the first time the unedited version.
