Gobots was a line of transforming robot toys produced by Tonka from 1983 to 1987, similar to Transformers. Although initially a separate and competitive franchise, Tonka's Gobots were the intellectual property of Hasbro following their acquisition of Tonka in 1991. Then the universe was depicted in the animated series Challenge of the Gobots and the sequel Gobots: Battle of the Rock Lords was established as an alternate universe in the Transformers franchise. While Hasbro now the fictional side of the property owned (character names, bios, storyline), real toys and their peers in the 80 license was given to Bandai. They are not covered by the acquisition of Tonka and are not available for Hasbro use.
